Mind Missions Digital - Pennsylvania Grades K, 1, 2, 3

Mind Missions Learning was created to prepare students for College, Career, and Civic life using inquiry-based, creative problem-solving lessons. Every Mind Mission lesson provides a compelling Social Studies question known as the Mission. Students learn the context of the question by reading The Story. Next, students Team Up to develop supporting questions and gather evidence to address the Mission solution. They collaboratively create a unique solution for the compelling question. Each team presents their solution to the class. Finally, they evaluate the effectiveness and the variety of solutions using Reflection prompts.

The Mind Missions Digital System includes introductory lessons for student success and twenty integrated lessons for learning Social Studies, Language Arts, and 21st century skills.

What lessons are in this Mind Missions Digital Learning System?

Kindergarten

Bunny Town:
Help the bunnies build a community! Teams will construct a Bunny Town and evaluate the purposes, duties, rules, and roles that are essential to community life.

U.S. Symbols:
Reflect on the meaning of United States symbols such as the Liberty Bell and the Statue of Liberty as student teams construct innovative symbols and solutions for their teams and school.

U.S. Holidays:
Construct an understanding of our nation’s holidays as teams promote the celebrations of Labor Day, Presidents’ Day, Independence Day, Veteran’s Day, and Columbus Day with unique solutions.

Social Studies Skills:
Teams investigate artifacts, make maps, build globes, construct a timeline, and invent a weather watcher in this series of lessons about Social Studies skills.

Grade 1

U.S. Legends:
Examine the stories of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Franklin, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Neil Armstrong as teams craft solutions to help these American legends.

U.S. Traditions:
Explore the traditions that unite us as United States citizens when teams investigate challenges about our national bird, Thanksgiving, the Pledge of Allegiance, and more!

Citizenship Skills:
Build awareness about the meaning of good citizenship as teams foster solutions to build respect, stop bullying, recognize good citizens, help the environment, and create a class constitution.

Chiponomics:
Develop a deep understanding about producers, consumers, saving, and the process of preparing a good for market for your friend, Chip the Chipmunk.

Grade 2

American Inventors:
Innovate like Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Robert Fulton, and Cyrus McCormick! Student teams explore the purpose and impact of great inventions as they devise their solutions.

Diverse Contributors:
Students nurture an appreciation of the stories and struggles of diverse contributors, including Garrett Morgan, Harriet Tubman, Susan B. Anthony, George Washington Carver, and the Navajo Code Talkers, as they collaborate to conquer challenges.

Citizens of Character:
Create solutions to aid the work of good citizens as they fight great challenges. Team up and innovate for Ruby Bridges, Clara Barton, Helen Keller, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Theodore Roosevelt.

U.S. Cultural Holidays:
Explore the variety of cultural holidays recognized around the nation as teams concoct celebration creations for Juneteenth, Kwanzaa, Chinese New Year, Cinco de Mayo, and St. Patrick’s Day.

Grade 3

Basic Government:
Students develop a deep understanding of the basics of government as they write a rights rap, learn how laws are made, explore the levels of government, build for three branches, and secure the secret selection process.

Human-Environment Interaction:
Investigate the interaction between people and the environment as teams devise solutions to address biodiversity, plastic use, energy solutions, and climate.

U.S. Community Builders:
Build communities and understanding as you explore the stories and challenges of great community builders, including Milton Hershey, Daniel Boone, Hector Garcia, Pierre Charles L’Enfant, and Jane Addams.

U.S. Civic Leaders:
Investigate the inspirational stories of Jackie Robinson, Sojourner Truth, Frederick Douglass, Booker T. Washington, and Thurgood Marshall as teams construct solutions for civic leaders.
